This photograph shows eager participants involved in one of the Society’s regular Picture Fairs, a popular fundraising activity. This was an opportunity for members and supporters to acquire donated artworks at an accessible price as well functioning as a core fundraiser. Supporters donated works to the fair rather than to the collection. Tickets were then sold and drawn like a raffle ticket. Each ticket gave the holder a chance of acquiring an artwork worth much more that the price of the ticket. Each ticket guaranteed an artwork whilst benefiting Ben Uri Art. Actress Hattie Jacques, of ‘Carry-on’ fame, made the draw in 1961.
